The interim government has started the process of securing an Interpol Red Notice against the owners of three leading garment factories: TNZ Group, Dard Group and Roar Fashion Ltd.
Authorities took this step after allegations that these owners stayed abroad for a long time while failing to pay their workers’ wages.
Those accused include Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Managing Director of TNZ Group; Etemad Ud Daulah, Chairman of Dard Group; Nabil Ud Daulah, Managing Director of Dard Group; and Mamunul Islam, Managing Director of Roar Fashion Ltd.
Cases filed in the Labour Court in Gazipur and the First and Third Labour Courts in Dhaka triggered the government’s move. These cases, lodged under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, accuse the owners of violating workers’ rights and withholding payments.
Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr M. Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministries of Labour and Employment and Shipping, strongly defended the decision.
He said the government would protect workers’ legal rights and punish anyone who exploits them. He explained that the legal process aims to bring the accused back to Bangladesh so workers can finally receive their unpaid wages and benefits.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment formally asked for the Red Notices. The Police Headquarters’ Additional Inspector General of NCB sent a signed request to Interpol to move the process forward.
Lutfe Siddiqui, Special Envoy for International Affairs to the Chief Adviser, also spoke on the matter. He warned that factory owners who ignore or deny workers’ rightful claims must face consequences. He praised the Labour Adviser for taking bold and timely action.
