In a joint initiative to promote environmental preservation and raise awareness among local communities, international shipping agency CMA-CGM and city-based volunteer organization One Man Army conducted a large-scale tree plantation and beach cleanup drive in Chattogram’s Patenga neighborhood.
On Saturday (September 13) the event was held at Patenga Sea Beach, where volunteers gathered for a day-long environmental program.
The program began at dawn, with volunteers launching a cleanliness campaign at 6:00 a.m. along Patenga Sea Beach. Over a ton of trash, including plastic, bottles, and polythene, was collected, leaving the beach significantly cleaner and more visually appealing.
Around 11:00 a.m., the second phase of the campaign concluded at Akmal Ali Ghat in Patenga, commonly known as the fishermen’s dock. After a thorough cleanup, volunteers planted Pabon Jhau saplings, a sea-friendly and environmentally sustainable species. Additionally, over 200 saplings, including flowering plants, were planted to enhance aesthetics and support ecological stability.
Organizers stated that the program aimed to address the adverse effects of climate change, conserve coastal biodiversity, and improve environmental quality.
The event drew over 100 volunteers, including members of One Man Army, CMA-CGM officials, local representatives, and community leaders, all of whom actively participated. Two trucks delivered the necessary tools and saplings, ensuring smooth coordination of the plantation efforts.
Organizers emphasized that such initiatives would continue, helping to maintain ecological balance in coastal areas and build a greener, more sustainable future for the next generation.
