Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain today said that there is no alternative to expand sports nationwide to eliminate child marriage and child labor.

He made the remark when representatives of UNICEF met him at his office, said a ministry press release.

During the meeting, various issues regarding the activities of the ministry of youth and sports and ministry of labor and employment such as child labour, child marriage, labor law, mental development of children and adolescents, education of women, and violence against women were discussed.

Youth and sports secretary Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed, UNICEF Child Protection Division Chief Natalie McCauley, UNICEF Child Protection Division Manager Elisa Calpona, and Child Protection Specialist Monira Hasan were present.

Earlier in morning, the progress of the EARN project, being implemented by the World Bank, was discussed with the officials concerned.
