Students Alliance for Democracy (SAD) has taken a bold step forward by announcing the formation of its Chattogram City Convening Committee. With democracy and justice as its guiding principles, SAD’s central leadership, including Joint Convenor Jamir Uddin and Member Secretary Abir Bin Jabed, approved the new team.
The committee will be steered by Saiful Islam Sajid as Convenor, with Sadman Taher Saeem as Joint Convenor and Ragib Hasan Fahim as Member Secretary. Redwan Roktim will serve as Assistant Member Secretary, while Masumul Kabir Rohan has been appointed Spokesperson. Together, they are joined by 36 other torchbearers representing various educational institutions in Chattogram, including notable figures like Nazmun Nahar, Md. Rafsan Jani Riaz, Rubayda Khanom Ahi, Prangon Pal, Sajid Sami Chowdhury, and Ifayet Hossain.
SAD was born out of the July Movement, a period of turbulence marked by the arrests of student leaders Nahid and Asif, which cast uncertainty over the momentum of the protests. Refusing to back down, a group of determined youth came together to form SAD, committed to fighting inequality and demanding justice.
The organization has outlined its goals clearly: to carry forward the spirit of the July Movement, establish democracy and justice through sustained action, and ensure accountability for the atrocities of the July crackdown.
Chattogram is poised to play a critical role in SAD’s mission. The newly formed committee will work to engage students, youth, and the wider community, spreading the message of democracy and justice. Convenor Saiful Islam Sajid expressed his vision, stating, “Our aim is to build a strong, grassroots movement in Chattogram that embodies the spirit of the July Movement and ensures it reaches every layer of society.”
With the Chattogram City Convening Committee in place, SAD hopes to energize its campaign for a more democratic and equitable future.
