Chattogram court has ordered the interrogation of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Sammilito Sanatoni Jagoron Jote, at the jail gate. This directive comes in connection with a case involving an attack on police and vandalism within the court premises.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate S.M. Alauddin of the 6th Court issued the order today, Monday, June 16, following a hearing on an application from the case's investigating officer.
The investigating officer, Assistant Commissioner Mostafa Kamal of the City Detective Police (DB) North Zone, had initially filed the application with the court on June 4, seeking permission to question Chinmoy Krishna at the jail gate.
According to Advocate Md. Raihanul Wazhed Chowdhury, Assistant Public Prosecutor of the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, the court granted permission for the jail gate interrogation based on the investigating officer's request in a vandalism case filed with Kotwali Police Station. The court has also mandated that a report be submitted by June 22.
The case itself was filed on November 29 by Khane Alam, brother of the late lawyer Alif, alleging an attack on lawyers, an explosion, and vandalism.
Chinmoy Krishna was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 26 of last year while traveling from Dhaka to Chattogram. The following day, he was produced before the court and shown arrested in a sedition case filed with Kotwali Police Station.
The court denied his bail application and ordered him to be sent to prison. On that same day, Chinmoy Das's lawyers filed a revision petition seeking bail against that order. It was during a clash surrounding his bail plea that lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was killed.
