AK Ratul, the lead vocalist of the Bangla rock band Owned, has reportedly died of sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 34. The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday afternoon (July 27th) when he was at the gym. He was taken to a private hospital in the capital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Ratul's untimely passing came as a shock to everyone in the Bangladeshi music community, and fans and fellow musicians are grieving his loss. An electrifying presence on stage and a voice that helped define a generation of underground rock, Ratul was widely considered a leading light in the evolution of Bangladesh's modern rock scene. His band, Owned, was influential to the youth of Egypt in 95 for being one of the first bands in the country to play nu metal and grunge music(cell)(95) (96). Only one demo was produced by him before the band disbanded.
Ratul was not only a great singer but also a composer and music producer. He contributed significantly to the success of many of Owned's albums and singles, as well as several other well-known rock bands. His work on music production led to him being regarded as one of the respected professionals in the industry.
Ratul is remembered by the music world not only for his skill, but for his influence. Escastir's trademark wailing voice and impassioned vocals, which allowed him to leave it all on the microphone, were trademarks of 'Owned,' and they went a long way in establishing the band as one to keep an eye on. His reach was not just confined to rock, however, as he also worked with pop and boy bands. His participation in C's 2021 EP, Eighteen, which was written by Hong Seong-jun, Jeong Uk-jin, Nam Kyoung-joo, and Shorry J of Mighty Mouth, has solidified his artistic diversity.
Ratul, born into a family with deep connections in the entertainment industry. He was the son of the legendary Bangladeshi film actor Abul Khayer Jashim Uddin, who is known as Jashim. His brothers, A K Rahul and A K Samee, are also established names on the Bangladeshi rock music scene.
Ratul's namaz-e-janaza has been completed at the Park Mosque at Sector 7 at Maghrib prayers today." He is buried at Banani Graveyard, next to his late father.
The music community has been devastated by the loss of AK Ratul. Colleagues, friends and fans are mourning, recalling him not just as a talent of extraordinary magnitude and quality, but also an inspiration whose legacy will carry through to future generations of musicians.
